- Notify neighbours of moving day;
- Plan your move thoughtfully;
- Introduce yourself early;
- Communicate any planned works;
- Control pet disturbances;
- Dispose of packing materials properly;
- Keep noise to a minimum;
- Be considerate;
- Don’t hog any parking real estate;
- Respect boundaries;
- Maintain your property.
These are all excellent tips. I have been guilty of not abiding by these tips in the past. There can be logistical issues if you are moving into a unit or apartment as there is not the space that you have when you are moving into and out of a house.
As I find with most things, it always comes back to the golden rule, treat others as you would want to be treated yourself! If you would be happy for your neighbours to start moving at 7am, then you can start moving at 7am. However, 7am during the week might be better than 7am on weekends when people might like to sleep in.
These suggestions might seem like common sense, however, moving house can be a stressful time, particularly if you are selling a house and buying a new house. You have to try and co-ordinate your moving and cleaning so that you are able to give vacant possession at settlement.
Just remember, that your neighbours might be moving or if you are buying, that the sellers are in the same situation, some being considerate can go a long way to ease everyone’s stress levels!
