Hidden costs of hail damage

If you, like me, and many other in the region are in the process of their insurance claim for hail damage suffered just before Christmas last year, you might continue to find issues that the insurance assessor may not have discovered.

It seems that a lot of people that I have been talking to who have solar, have all been told that there are no issues with their solar panels and so they do not form part of their insurance claim.

You should check your electricity bills and make sure that you solar output has remained at the same levels as they were prior to the storm.

In my personal experience, the first electricity bill after the storm was an estimate as the meter reader could not get past my very yappy dachshund.  So there was no evidence of a decline.  However, the next bill was a complete shock as we had next no solar input and the electricity bill was double.

I requested my electricity supplier to review my accounts to make sure that their readings and calculations were right.  They assured me that they were.

It was only after considering the effect of the solar that I realised that we do our washing and dishwashing during the day and that with no solar, we are then paying extra for that usage during the day as well as not getting any extra solar refunds.

So I would recommend that you check and double check and keep checking your electricity bills and if there are any issues take it up with the insurance company.
