I have two December babies. They were born both born one week before Christmas, 2 years apart and on back to back days. A real lack of planning on their parents part!
So we try to make sure that their birthdays are separate from Christmas. This usually means Birthday parties well before their actual birthday so that their family and friends can come and they are not caught up with their own Christmas parties. It also means trying to make sure that they get Birthday presents that are not Christmas related.
Both our children were due on Christmas day. Luckily for them they came into the world one week earlier, and they were all home in time for their first Christmas.
I don’t think that I have ever talked to a December baby who is happy that their birthday was so close to Christmas.
For our children this will mean that they will probably have joint birthday parties every year (we tried 2 different parties on two different weekends…. Never again!).
At this stage of their life, the children don’t mind sharing parties. They also don’t mind that they have an earlier birthday party as they get presents at the start of December, more presents on their Birthdays and then even more presents on Christmas.
It is a big month on presents, however, it has to sustain them for a whole year and they don’t have anymore presents until a year later (thank God!).
If this is only issue that our children have to worry about for the rest of their lives, then they have led a blessed and fortunate life.
So my thoughts go out to all the December babies and families this month, and hope that they get a Birthday present and a Christmas present!
